ASTON VILLA vs MANCHESTER UNITED – REVIEW

Aston Villa 0

Man United 1

Jones (20)

Yet another 1-0 win, yet another clean sheet, yet another injury. This seems to be a trend for United in the past month. United was the dominant team in the 1-0 victory at Villa Park.
After convincing wins for all the rival teams, United went to Villa Park under pressure to get all three points and all three points is what they got.
The match did not start well for United as Havier Hernandez was stretchered off early on in the game with what looks like an ankle injury. Sir Alex has confirmed that he will be out for at least a month. The injury continues for United as this is the third time Hernandez has been injured this season which is quite frustrating.
Antonio Valencia replaced Hernandez and played on the right wing, while Nani moved to central role behind Rooney.
The deadlock was broken in the 20th minute, when Phil Jones met a Nani cross and his shot led to United’s first goal. This was also the first goal for Phil Jones in United colours. Phil Jones was playing in central midfield in this match and Sir Alex will be very happy that the 19 year old is giving great performances wherever he plays him.
The stretcher was used again in the first half as Shay Given was forced out with a hamstring injury.
The second half saw United dominate with hardly any chances for Villa. Jenas was the third player to get injured. Danny Welbeck replaced Ahsley Young and made his comeback after injury. Welbeck looked sharp and also had an opportunity to score a goal, but Rooney’s delayed pass left him offside.
This was a great performance from the United back four who hardly gave Villa a chance.
It ended up to be funny game with injuries and one team dominating but only winning 1-0.
United will be happy they maintained the gap to City, but with City winning convincingly and increasing the goal difference it will be interesting to see whether this could hurt United at the end of the season.
