MANCHESTER UNITED vs CRYSTAL PALACE - REVIEW

Man United 1

Macheda (69)
Crystal Palace 2
Ambrose (65), Murray (98)

It was another disappointing night for Manchester United as they were eliminated by Crystal Palace in the quarter finals of the Carling Cup.
There was a lot of speculation about the starting eleven, with rumors that Sir Alex could start with a very young side. Instead it was quite an experienced line up that started on Wednesday.
With the likes of Berbatov, Smalling, Macheda, Gibson and the Da Silva twins, United were expected to win comfortably at Old Trafford.
The first half saw very little action in front of goal and with injuries to Berbatov and the Da Silva twins, United were forced to make changes. The injured Berbatov was replaced by the promising Ravel Morrison. Fryers and Pogba were also introduced in the second half.
After a goalless first half, the Old Trafford faithful were stunned on 65 minutes by a 35 yard shot from Darren Ambrose which led to the first goal.
United did equalise four minutes later when Federico Macheda was pulled down in the penalty area. The Italian took the penalty himself and made no mistake in slotting the ball in the net.
Both sides failed to score after that and the match was forced into extra time.
Crystal Palace won the match in extra time when Murray scored from a cross as he headed it past Amos. United were knocked out of the cup as Sir Alex apologized to the fans saying that this was not a United performance.
